Local efforts to reduce teen smoking are moving forward, but a new state law could change the way organizations go about targeting retailers who sell tobacco to minors.

One youth organization has blanketed the area with billboards and television commercials aimed at discouraging teen-age smoking. Stop Tobacco Among Many People, or STAMP, will run three different television commercials through September and display 10 billboards in the area.

"The organization always tries to approach it in a positive manner," said Jamie Baker, Northwest Missouri coordinator of Tobacco-Free Missouri. "We try to get the word out and like to work with younger kids."
