Nicotine and the Brain

Addiction to nicotine maintains the use of tobacco products. Nicotine has psychopharmacological effects on the brain that maintain the use of tobacco. The effects nicotine has on the brain may begin before birth if tobacco is used during pregnancy. Certain diseases are also specifically impacted by nicotine which either alters the course of the disease or maintains the use of tobacco.
